The municipality is bordered to the north by the municipality of Aljezur, to the northeast by Lagos and to the south and west it has a coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. The coastline of the municipality, from the west coast to Burgau beach to the east, is part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park.

The municipality of Vila do Bispo has the most important concentration of menhirs in the entire Algarve, with a known number of around 300 specimens. They consist mostly of white limestone, whose whiteness makes them an element that stands out in the landscape, and three specimens in sandstone are also known in the municipality. With subcylindrical, subconical, stellar or simple upright stone shapes, the vast majority of menhirs are decorated.

Praia do Amado is located near the town of Carrapateira, parish of Bordeira in the Algarve municipality of Aljezur, is part of the Natural Park of Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina.

It is a large beach, with secluded and quiet sand, which receives thousands of visits a year, not only from tourists from other countries but also from national tourists. Amado is well known for its waves, which are small in size when compared to the beaches in the Ericeira and Peniche areas, versatile and diverse, and therefore also very popular for the extreme sports they provide. It has hosted several competitions for beginners in surfing and bodyboarding. It is a beach with human presence throughout the year, as there are surf and bodyboard schools for beginners.

Access can be made through two places: to the north, from Praia da Bordeira, heading south through the wonderful cliff, on a dirt road of about 0.5 km. This small route is of breathtaking scenic beauty, especially in the place of Pontal. The other access is located to the south of Carrapateira, 2 km from the beach.
