The principle of fulling mills is to have an axis driven by a waterwheel; this axis has cams that lift big wooden drumsticks which beat sheets laying in tanks filled with water mixed with a special type of clay. The sheets were therefore 'crushed' to reinforce their texture. This operation was deemed painful because extremely noisy, this is why the lord who owned the mill (back in the 17th century), operated 'fuller workers' working and living permanently at the place... The sheets then had to dry quickly and were exposed south to the sun?
When you enter the place following this dead-end road leading towards the river, one discovers the property (former fulling mill) lying in the middle of its garden, facing south, with the river flowing on its side on more than 800 m. According to the owners, a fishing rod should rather look like a fish net as salmons make so much noise at the foot of the dam when they're looking to goback upstream? A wheel running and having already its electrical interface to produce electricity, is fortunately there to remind of the history of this place... The analogy with the mill ends here as the volumes, the architecture (mullioned windows, monumental fireplaces, arched doors, paved ground with granite stones?) as well as the arrangements fit those of a manor? The lord would have certainly envied such a place... isn't that revenge ???
The property is centered on its grounds offering an open view on both sides of the property. A lovely guest house sets aside facing the river. It has a kitchenette, bathroom and 2 bedrooms. 2 hangars used as garage / storage with a greenhouse on the back are on the far-end of the property with a separate access.
The manor house is built around 3 buildings: the miller's house to the east is linked to the mill by a stone building that fits perfectly the architecture and unifies the parts. The main entrance is in a hall (18 m²) opening onto the terrace and garden. A lounge to the right (45 m²) with the 'mill' atmosphere remaining, with featuring in the middle, a granite fireplace extended by the river... the view of wood burning on the water is impressive (yes, I've seen it !!!). Stairs lead to mezzanine upper floors. On the other side, we pass successively in the office library room (10 m²), a kitchen (secondary one) with its granite sink-wall and monumental fireplace (14 m²), then a living room (48 m²) with its fireplace featuring at the far-end. On the back there is a laundry room (15 m²) which is also a room with the electric interface for the wheel, and toilets (4 m²). On the first floor, a dining room on the mezzanine (25 m²) communicates with the fitted kitchen (21 m²) which dominates the park and river. Further, a bedroom (10 m²), bathroom and toilet (6 m²), then the main bedroom (35 m²). On the second floor of the mill, there is a bedroom on the mezzanine with en-suite bathroom (20 m²). (4.00 % fees incl. VAT at the buyer's expense.)
